TV Internship Guidelines

         

The criteria, eligibility requirements and procedures for Internship Programs are determined by the academic departments and supported by the Career Development Center. Universal requirements for the campus do not exist; each academic department, often with guidance from the Career Development Center, designs its own program. Through Internship course number 21:965:393 and 394

Maximum internship credits allowed:

Students may take two separate internships for three creditseach, for a total of six internship credits.

Is credit awarded for prior internship activity?

No

How are internships approved by the department?

The basic qualifications for an internship sponsored by the department are: Junior or Senior status, and major or minor in Theater Arts and Television, or Journalism and Communications Media. The Career Development Center maintains internships in a password-protected area of the Center's web site called eRecruiting. Students must attend a eRecruiting Activation Meeting to access these internship listings. Students may also obtain positions on their own and through the department. However, in all cases, the Television Program Coordinator listed above must approve descriptions of field/internship experiences, written by the organization and/or employer.

The following characteristics must be present for credit to be issued:

A 3-credit internship requires a minimum of 126 hours spent working at a host institution over the course of one semester or summer session.

Grading The Television Program Coordinator will be the overall evaluator of the student's internship.
The Overall Requirements Include:
  •    Interns must meet with the faculty coordinator at the beginning of the process to get instructions, forms, and a form letter for host institution.
  • Interns must meet with the faculty coordinator at the end of the process to recap what they have learned and discuss supervisor's evaluation.
  • Interns must keep a daily journal of internship experiences. The date and number of hours worked should be noted on a separate calendar and signed off weekly by the host institute supervisor.
  • The intern is to email the coordinator every two weeks journal entries, hours worked in the intern's file to augment the final evaluation at the end of the internship
