How
are Internships
Approved
by the Dept?
|
The
student intern must complete 8-10 hours per week at their internship
site. The
Career Development Center (CDC) maintains internships in a password-protected
area of the Center’s web site called eRecruiting. Students
must attend a eRecruiting
Activation Meeting to access these internship
listings. Students may also obtain positions on their own and through
the department. The student and employer must complete a Political
Science Internship Contract and have it approved through the
CDC. After
the CDC approves of the contract, Professor Sullivan or designated
faculty member will have the final approval of descriptions of
field/internship experiences, written by the organization and/or
employer. |

Grading: |
Professor
Sullivan or designated faculty member will be the overall evaluator
of the student’s
internship. |
The Overall Requirements Include: |
§
An Internship
Contract must be completed by the intern and supervisor;
the contract must then be approved and signed by the CDC and Professor
Sullivan or designated faculty.
§
Internship supervisors will complete an evaluation form towards
the end of the semester that rates the intern’s performance. These
ratings are considered in deciding whether intern performance
warrants a satisfactory grade.
§
Interns must submit a journal every two weeks and a paper. Failure
to submit supervisor evaluations or specific written products
when due will be cause for receiving an “F” for the
course.
