Credit
for approved internships will be granted through the course numbered

| Maximum
internship credits allowed: |
6
credits |
| Is
credit awarded for prior internship activity? |
No,
credit may not be awarded retrospectively. That is, students may
not apply for internship credit for work performed at some previous
time. Similarly, students may not receive internship credit for
normal duties performed through pre-existing employment. |
| How
are internships approved by the department? |
Juniors or seniors (64+ credit hours), with a minimum grade point
average of 3.0, are eligible to apply for the criminal justice academic
internship credit. The Career Development Center maintains internships
in a password protected area of the Center's web site called eRecruiting.
Students must attend a eRecruiting Activation meeting to access these internship listings. Students
may also obtain positions on their own and through the department.
However, in all cases, descriptions of field/internship experiences,
written by the organization and/or employer must be approved by
the Undergraduate Program Director. Students and employers must
complete an internship contract. Completed contracts must be signed
by both the student and internship supervisor (employer) and submitted
to the Director for approval no later than Friday of the first week
of classes for the fall and spring semesters. Applications for summer
term internships must be submitted before classes begin for the
term in which the student will enroll for the internship credit.

| The
following characteristics must be present for credit to be issued: |
Internships
offer undergraduate students the opportunity to gain pre-professional
experience in criminal justice. Internships are intended to integrate
pre-professional and academic experience. It is expected that the
nature of the internship is compatible to studies in criminal justice.
In general, three hours academic credit may be earned for each 150
hours internship experience, to a maximum of six hours total internship
credit. Credit for internships cannot be used to satisfy major or
general education requirements; internship credit will only count
toward meeting the total credit hours required to earn a baccalaureate
degree. |
| Grading |
Academic
credit is awarded as "pass" or "no pass". Within
two weeks after beginning an internship, students must submit a work
plan to the Undergraduate Program Director. This plan should describe
specific tasks the intern will be performing throughout the semester.
A "pass" or "no pass" grade will be issued based
upon midterm and final internship assessments written by both the
students and internship supervisors (employers). For more information,
obtain an internship contract by visiting the Career
Development Center. |
