| Is
credit awarded for prior internship activity? |
No,
internship credits will not be given for prior activities. The date
the internship starts must coincide with the semester for which
credit will be awarded. |
| How
are internships approved by the department? |
History majors, history minors, and Asian studies minors in their
junior and senior years, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0
are eligible to apply for the internship. Sophomores may be considered
on a case by case basis. Students must have completed either 21:510;287,
288 History of Islamic Civilization or 21:510;297, 298 Far Eastern
History, before registering for an internship. Credits will be counted
toward fulfillment of the history major, history minor, Asian Studies
minor requirements and general education. The Career Development
Center maintains internships in a password protected area of the
Center's web site called eRecruiting.
Students must attend a eRecruiting Activation meeting to access these internship listings. Students
may also obtain positions on their own and through the department.
However, in all cases, descriptions of field/internship experiences,
written by the organization and/or employer must be approved by
the Asian Studies Program Director listed above. Students and employers
must complete an internship contract. The contract must be submitted
prior to the semester for which the credit is being awarded. To
obtain a contract, please schedule an appointment to meet with a
counselor at the Career
Development Center. |
| The
following characteristics must be present for credit to be issued: |
Students
must complete 120 hours for the semester to receive the three credits.
The History/Asian Studies Internship allows students to work for
an organization or company that provides practical experience that
may lead to a career in Asia or that relates to Asian studies. Through
practical experience, students will gain a better understanding
of some aspects of Asian history, society, life, culture, or economy.Top

| Grading |
A
grade will be provided that is established from the academic research
paper that is written, based upon experience and a special topic decided
upon in consultation with the faculty supervisor, and the performance
evaluation completed by the internship supervisor (employer) at the
end of the internship. |
